The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team bolstered their frontcourt for the 2012-13 campaign as 6-3 center Deanna Moore (Muskogee, Okla./Muskogee HS) signed a national letter of intent during the early signing period.
Moore was the centerpiece of a Muskogee team which finished 14-8 and advanced to the Class 6A Regional Tournament during the 2010-2011 season. A defensive intimidator known for racking up blocks and altering shots, Moore averaged a team-high 2.4 blocks per game and was third on the team in rebounds with 4.2 boards per game last year. As a result of her success on the court last season, Moore was named to the Oklahoma All-VYPE Preseason Basketball Team early this fall.
However, it wasn't Moore's stats that led Prairie View A&M to offer a scholarship. Assistant coach Rob Amboree, who played an integral role in recruiting her, explained why Moore will be such a good fit for Prairie View.
“She can rebound and play really good defense,” Amboree said. “She knows how to block shots. The main thing that stuck out to me is that she runs the floor and she can get up and down the court. I saw her beating people in the summer and getting some easy buckets.”
The Lady Panthers use defense and buckets in transition as their calling card under head coach Toyelle Wilson. So Moore's game should be a welcomed addition to the team.
Offensively, Moore averaged four points per contest last season on a perimeter-oriented team and was efficient, shooting 45 percent from the field.
