Prairie View A&M head men's basketball coach Byron Rimm II announced today the addition of two student-athletes for the 2013-14 academic year as they received National Letters of Intent from 6-9 center Reggis Onwukamuche and 6-6 point guard Rashaan Surles.
Reggis Onwukamuche
Center
6-9 – 225 – Junior
Houston, Texas - Lone Star College-Cy Fair
Onwukamuche is a 6-9, 225-pound center from Houston, Texas who hails from Lone Star College-Cy Fair. He's the top rebounder on his team at this point of the 2012-13 season as he recently grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds versus Angelina College earlier this month. Onwukamuche originally began his collegiate career at Wiley College in which he was one of the top low post players for the Wildcats during his tenure.
“The signing of Reggis is a big one for Prairie View A&M,” said Rimm. “He'll bring rebounding and a hard work ethic to the program. Reggis is a high-character student who will major in biology and I believe he'll bring a lot of excitement to Panther Nation.”
Rashaan Surles
Guard
6-6 – 180 – Freshman
Floosmoor, Ill. – Homewood-Floosmoor HS
A 6-6 point guard from Flossmoor, Ill, Surles plays on one of the top teams in the state of Illinois as he recently led the Vikings with a 19-point performance as Homewood-Floosmoor won the prestigious Chicago Heights Classic.
Surles is currently averaging 16.7 points per game, 3.2 steals, 3 assists and 3.25 rebounds. He's also shooting 58 percent from the field and 57 percent from beyond the three-point line as Homewood-Floosmoor is ranked No. 2 in the Chicago suburbs by the Southtown Star.
“Rashaan is a very long and skilled point guard,” said Rimm. “We're extremely lucky to beat out these other schools for him. He is an athletic 6-6 guard who can step right in and play right away. He will give our program the high-major look it deserves.”
