Hitting The Boards: PV Men's Basketball Tied For Fifth Nationally In Rebounding

With the regular season coming to an end, the Prairie View A&M Panther basketball team continues to peak at the right time with wins in six of the past nine games.  The team's success is partly due to them hitting the boards as they're tied for fifth nationally in rebounds per game with 40.9 boards while leading the nation with 468 offensive rebounds and ranking second in total rebounds with 1,185.

“The ranking is a testament to the hard work the players have put in on the court, weight room and film sessions,” said head coach Byron Rimm II.  “One of my goals since I've been here is to be tough on the glass as it allows you to have second-chance opportunities, limit offensive possessions for opposing teams and setting the tone for the game.”

The Panthers have outrebounded teams in 23 of 29 games played this season with five games of 50-plus rebounds, including 56 against Dallas Christian and 55 versus Alabama State.

In addition to ranking high amongst NCAA Division I teams in rebounds per game, PV also leads the SWAC in rebound offense (40.8), rebound margin (+3.8) (72nd NCAA), offensive rebounds (16.1) and offensive rebound percentage (.393). The Panthers are ranked fifth in rebounding defense (37.0), third in defensive rebound percentage (.670) and second in defensive rebounds (24.7).

Senior guard Jourdan DeMuynck leads the Panthers with 6.5 rebounds per game followed by 5.8 boards from junior forward Jules Montgomery.  DeMuynck has eight double-doubles this season while Montgomery has grabbed no less than five rebounds in 29 of the past 50 games dating back to the 2011-12 campaign.

With two regular season games left this week and the SWAC Tournament less than two weeks away in Garland, Texas, the Panthers look to build upon those numbers and challenge for the top spot in the nation.
