Men's Tennis Advances To SWAC Championship

The Prairie View A&M men's Tennis team dominated Alabama State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference semi-final match 4-0 en route to earning a trip the championship match for the second season in a row.

The Panthers started the game off by taking the doubles point. Jackson Varney and Craig Wiltz took care of business in the No. 1 slot, defeating the team of Bobby Brand and Gyula Cseszko of ASU 8-4. Rasaki Gbadamosi and David Aldaz then defeated Stefan Vojnic and Roderick Williams of TSU 8-5 to start the dual match off on the right foot.

Three quick wins in singles play then sealed the deal for the Panthers to advance to the championship match. At the No. 6 slot, Daniel Vasqez was the first to finish off his match, defeating Williams 6-2, 6-2. Prairie View A&M's No. 2, Karim Fotso then took out Alexis Pierre 6-3, 6-0. Second Team All-SWAC player Ronald Chidzikwe then took care of business in the 4 slot with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Jarred Thompson.

No. 2 seeded Alcorn State will be the Panthers' opponent on Sunday. The match is scheduled to begin at  1 p.m. at the City Park Tennis Center in New Orleans, La.
