HOUSTON -
For the first time since 2010, the Prairie View A&M Panthers found themselves locked in a meaningful contest inside the H&PE Arena down the stretch.  Unfortunately, the Panthers found themselves on the wrong side of the ledger in an 87-83 triple overtime affair.

Texas Southern was in danger of running away with the contest in the first half as they held a pair of eight-point leads in the final 5:07.  With TSU up 34-27 less than eight seconds remaining, PVAMU junior guard Tre Hagood nailed a trey as time expired to send the Panthers into the locker room down 34-30.

The second half was tightly contested between both teams as the Panthers battled back from a six-point deficit with a 9-4 run to claim a 45-44 advantage at the 10:02 mark.  TSU regained the lead on D'Aris Scarver's basket and held on until Jules Montgomery scored a layup at the 6:40 mark.  The Panthers led by as much as three points on two occasions over the next few minutes but a missed PVAMU three-pointer led to TSU's Medarious Gibbs nailing 1-of-2 free throws to trim PVAMU's lead to 58-57 with 1:04 remaining.

With the game heading down to the wire, TSU upped the pressure and PVAMU attempted to call a timeout with 51 seconds remaining.  However, the Panthers were whistled for a five-second call and had to turn the ball over.  TSU's Aaric Murray was fouled with 29 seconds left and hit 1-of-2 from the free throw stripe to tie the game at 58-all.  The Panthers had two attempts to win the game but came up short as the teams went into overtime.

PVAMU struck first in OT on Montrael Scott's basket but TSU countered and eventually claimed a 69-62 lead with 12 seconds remaining.  Scott nailed a trey with 10 seconds left and a technical foul by a TSU fan running on the court allowed John Brisco to nail two free throws for a 69-67 deficit.  After 1-of-2 free throws from Murray with four seconds left, the Panthers drove the length of the court and Brisco nailed a buzzer-beating trey for the second overtime.

In the second overtime, TSU struck first but a trey from Brisco kept the team within striking distance as they were down 74-73 at the 2:45 mark.  However, the Panthers bounced back with the final four points to send the contest into the third overcame.

The Panthers ran out of gas in the third overtime and missed their first four shots.  They remained within three points on two occasions over the next minute but TSU broke the game open from the free throw line as they were 5-of-6 from the line while the Panthers missed five consecutive baskets.

Four Panthers scored in double figures with Brisco leading the way 20 points.  Scott followed with 16 points while Tre Hagood and Louis Munks added 15 and 12 points, respectively.

The Panthers return to action next Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Miss. as they'll face Jackson State at 5 p.m.
