HOUSTON – The Prairie View A&M men's track team kicked off the 2014 outdoor season with a bang as they complied eight first place finishes at the annual TSU Relays in Houston.
Marcus Mathis and John Evans both placed first in their respective heats of the 200-meter dash while Dewaylon Wilson placed fourth in the 400. Sorone Batiste was the top collegiate finisher in the 800 as he placed third (1:49.79) against two professional runners representing Adidas. Adam Dinaoli finished third in the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter runs.
Michael Prejean opened the indoor season with a bang as he won the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 14.01 while the tandem of Dannie Luckey and Prejean placed 1-2 in the 400 hurdles. The quartet of Keon Campbell, Jordan Powell, Prejean and Edwin Stewart won the 4x100-meter relay in a time of 40.66 while the sprint medley relay team of John Evans, Powell, Wilson and Batiste won their event in a time of 3:25.24.
Pierre Shepherd won the high jump with a mark of 6-8 while Rashad Wilson placed third in the long jump (22-4.25). Fresh off a 12th-place finish in the NCAA Indoor National Meet, Preston Woodard won the triple jump with a length of 49-11 while Anthony Smith placed fourth in the shot put (47-9.25).
Both the PVAMU men's and women's teams are back in action at the annual Texas Relays this weekend in Austin, Texas.
