NEW ORLEANS, La. – The opportunity to repeat as SWAC Tennis Champions did not materialize as the Panther men dropped a 4-2 match to Alabama State on Saturday.
The Panthers fell behind early as they lost the doubles point to the Hornets. The No. 1 team of Jackson Varney and Rasaki Gbadamosi claimed the lone win with an 8-3 decision.
Varney claimed a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 while Daniel Vasquez picked up a 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 win in the fourth spot during singles. However, the Panthers lost matches at No. 2, 5 and 6.
On Friday, the Panthers opened play with an impressive 4-0 win over Alabama A&M at the City Park Tennis Complex.
The Panthers claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 and sealed the match with wins at the No. 3, 5 and 6 spots.
