Scott Named Women's Basketball Assistant Coach

Tarniesha Scott, a native of Camden, Ark., enters her first season with the Prairie View A&M University women's basketball program. As the team's assistant coach, she is responsible for film exchange operations, player development (forwards), community service functions, opponent scouting, as well as assisting with all the day-to-day operations of the program.

Scott comes to Prairie View A&M University after a two-year stint at Talladega College in Talladega, Ala.  Scott served as an assistant coach at Talladega College from August of 2012 to December of 2013, and then transitioned to interim head coach in January of 2014. During her tenure at Talladega College, Scott helped lead the team to two consecutive Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament appearances (2013, 2014) and as the interim head coach she led the team to a GCAC Regular Season Championship (2014) and the program's first appearance in the NAIA National Championship Tournament.  In Scott's two years at Talladega College she guided the team to a 46-15 overall record.

Scott also has a history of coaching at the high school level. She served as the head freshman girls basketball coach at Ursuline Academy in Dallas, Texas during the 2011-12 season. While at Ursuline Academy, she helped lead the team to an overall record of 18-6. Scott also served as an assistant coach with the varsity program and helped guide them to a 2012 Texas Alliance of Accredited Private School State Championship (TAPPS).

Prior to Scott's coaching career, she was a standout player at The University of Texas at Dallas.  As a student-athlete, she led her conference in scoring (2011) with 17.4 points per game while finishing sixth in rebounds with 8.3 per game.  Her 470 points scored that season was the most ever scoring in a single season at UTD.  As a result of her output, Scott became the first UTD women's basketball player to earn All-America recognition, collecting honorable mention notice from both the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and Women's DIII News. Scott was named to the prestigious All-ASC Team after being tabbed First Team All-ASC East. She also was a two-time ASC East Player of the Week this season and a 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year Award Nominee.

Scott received her bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Dallas in Business Administration in May of 2011, and later received her Master's in Business Administration with a concentration in Sports Entertainment from The University of Dallas in August of 2013.

Scott is the daughter of Cassandra Scott and Anthony Jackson and has two siblings, Izaiah and Amari Jackson.
