Prairie View, Texas - Panthers from several sports are recipients of the 2017 Arthur Ashe Sports Scholar Award.
The award is named after the famed African American tennis player who was the lone African American male to ever win the singles championship at Wimbledon, the US Open, as well as the Australian Open.
The Ashe Award is endowed upon student- athletes who have excelled athletically and in their scholastic endeavors. In order to be considered for this award students must sustain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 and be active on their respective campuses and in their community.
