Mark Spivey enrolled at Prairie View A&M in the Fall of 2003 after a highly decorated career at Westfield High School in Houston, Texas.  While at Westfeld, Spivey ranked as one of the top quarterbacks in the state of Texas and was on numerous state Top 100 lists.

Four months after his high school graduation, Spivey found himself quarterbacking the Panthers in the first Labor Day Classic held at Reliant Stadium.  Several weeks later, Spivey arrived on the scene during the annual State Fair Classic as he was named SWAC Newcomer of the Week after throwing for 192 yards and a touchdown against Grambling State.  After a solid start, Spivey suffered a season-ending injury towards the end of the season which took nearly two years of recovery time.

A healthy Spivey returned to the field in 2006 as the team’s backup quarterback but his first real break didn’t come until a year later at the annual State Fair Classic in Dallas, Texas in the 2007 campaign.

With the Panthers down 14-0 in the fourth quarter against Grambling State, Spivey came off the bench and was on the verge of shocking the college football world as he completed 16 of 24 passes for 157 yards and touchdown to knot the contest at 14-all.  Prairie View A&M, which lost 14 straight games to Grambling State at the time, had an opportunity to end the streak as Spivey drove the team to within field goal range with no time remaining.

After his breakout performance against Grambling, Spivey solidified himself as the starter and led the Panthers to their first winning season since 1976.  He received a medical hardship waiver before the 2008 campaign stepped his game u to a higher level as the Panthers finished the year with a 9-1 mark and the SWAC’s top-ranked offense.  As a result of his efforts, Spivey finished his career as PVAMU’s all-time leader in passing yardage (3,906 yards) and completed passes (355) at the time.

Spivey returned to the gridiron as a graduate assistant coach for the next two seasons and continued to make history as he was a part of a staff which helped capture the first SWAC Championship at Prairie View A&M in over 40 years.

Spivey is married to another PVAMU Hall of Famer in Felicia (Tarver) Spivey.  He graduated in 2007 with a bachelor’s in health education.
