A native of Ennis, Texas, Johnson was a three-year letterwinner on the gridiron for the Prairie View A&M College Panthers under former head coach Hoover Wright. Johnson also spent a year on the NAIA National Champion and nationally ranked Panther track team under Wright. He finished with a degree in industrial arts from Prairie View in 1969 and is retired from Lyondell-Citco. Johnson presently works for the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department.

Athletic Honors/Titles: Lettered in Football 1966-68; Lettered in Track & Field 1967-68.

Outstanding Achievements: 1966 All-SWAC Football Team
