Volleyball Seniors Leave Home On Winning Note

Lady Panthers Sweep Southern 3-0 On Senior Night

BOX SCORE

The Prairie View A&M volleyball team made sure to send its two seniors out with a bang on senior and breast cancer awareness night. Jasmine Houston and Maegan Coleman were major contributors in a dominating 3-0 sweep over Southern Thursday night.

Houston had a game-high 16 kills in the victory, and said that she and her teammates came out with intent to take care of the match in quick fashion. They remember the 3-2 loss they suffered to Southern less than a week ago (Oct. 21) on the road.

“The first time they won it shouldn't have happened,” Houston said. “We just couldn't finish that game. I knew we were going to come out in our last home game and beast it. It feels good to win and have that on our shoulders. Hopefully we can keep winning all the way into (the) SWAC (Tournament).”

Coleman had five kills and .500 kill percentage in her final game in the William Nicks Building (The Baby Dome). Despite being pushed to the limit in Game 3, the Lady Panthers kept their composure and stringed together one key play after another to close out the game 27-25. Prairie View A&M won the first two games 25-14 and 25-15 respectively.

“I feel like as a team we need to play together, play to win and play to have fun. When we have fun as a team then we win,” Coleman said. “That's how we won in three (games).”

Setter Maria Moulaz gave Coleman, Houston and Christine Ruckman (13 kills) plenty of opportunities to make plays. Moulaz had 32 assists Thursday, while freshman libero Shanice Faison provided defensive stability with 14 digs.

With Thursday's win, the Lady Panthers improved to 5-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, good enough for first place in the West Division. Prairie View A&M will take on its SWAC rival Texas Southern 7 p.m. Tuesday night at the H&PE arena on the TSU campus.
