Volleyball Stunned In Non-Conference Loss To UTPA

BOX SCORE

The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers were stunned in a 3-2 loss to Texas-Pan American Monday night in the William Nicks Building.

Prairie View A&M dominated the Broncs in the first two games, winning both by scores of 25-15. However, the Lady Panthers looked like a totally different team in the following sets, succumbing to errors to lose their first home game since Sept. 13 and snapping a three-game win streak.

Four service errors in the final 19 plays of the fourth game turned out to be the undoing of Prairie View.  They ended up losing that game 25-23.  In the match finale, UTPA jumped out to a 4-1 lead but PV climbed to within 4-3 following an early timeout.  However, the run was short-lived as UTPA outscored the Lady Panthers 9-1 from that point to take control of the deciding game.

Despite playing without junior starter Maria Moulaz, the Lady Panthers gave UTPA all it could handle. Middle blockers Christine Ruckman and Jasmine Houston combined for 26 kills in the heartbreaker.  Freshman Shanice Faison anchored the back line with 14 digs against an aggressive Broncos squad.

Prairie View (3-13, 3-0 SWAC) will travel to New Orleans to face Xavier on Friday.
