HOUSTON – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panther volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Houston Baptist on Tuesday night at Sharp Gymnasium.
Prairie View A&M came out flat to open the match as HBU claimed an 11-0 lead en route to a 25-13 victory in set one. The Lady Panthers had a better start in game two and kept it close until HBU broke the set open at the midway point for a 25-10 margin. Prairie View A&M was plagued by the error bug in the opening sets as they had more errors (17) than kills (10) in both games combined.
The Lady Panthers turned the tide offensively in the final game as they tallied 11 kills. HBU broke a 4-4 tie and went on a 3-0 spurt to claim a 7-4 margin. Prairie View bounced back and closed to within 7-5 following a service error but HBU extended its margin to 12-6 several plays later. Prairie View continued to fight and narrowed the gap to 21-17 and then 23-19 following several HBU attack errors. However, that would be as close as they would get as HBU recorded consecutive kills to end the match.
Juniors Christine Ruckman and Breanna McNeil recorded five kills each while junior Maria Moulaz finished with 17 assists and eight digs.
The Lady Panthers return to action next Tuesday as they travel to San Antonio, Texas to face Texas-San Antonio at 6:30 p.m.
