The Prairie View A&M women's tennis is looking for consistency after up and down showings at the Third Annual Doc Skogman Invitational and the HBCU National Tennis Championships.
Christine Ngo Gwodog came through huge for the Lady Panthers in her C Singles flight at the Doc Skogman Invite. She cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win the championship match over Texas A&M-Kingsville's Paula Saenz.
Junior Brittany Harrell lost in the semifinals of the women's A Flight in a 6-4, 5-7, 1(9) nail-bitter to Alexandra Khadzyan of St. Edward's. Erika Bond scored with a 6-0, 6-2 win for the Lady Panthers, defeating LeTourneau's Nell Spencer in the third place match of her flight.
Earlier in the HBCU National National Tennis Championships, Harrell also advanced to the semifinals of the A Flight in women's singles. She was defeated by Ksenia Kozlova of Delaware State. Gwodog was defeated 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 by Southern's Lois Alexis.
The doubles team of Harrell and Lerato Ndlovu took second place in the women doubles A Flight as they lost an 8-2 match to Gaby Chinchilla and Chinatsu Kajiwara out of Bethune Cookman. In the B Flight, the team of Bond and Gwodog was defeated 8-2 by the Arkansas-Pine Bluff duo Maria Cabane and Fabiola Cardoso in the quarterfinals.
Prairie View A&M's next Tournament will be at the ITA Regional Championships on Oct. 19 in Waco, Texas.
