PV Volleyball Gets Three All-SWAC Selections

The Prairie View A&M volleyball team had three players named to the All-SWAC second team Friday afternoon just a day before it takes on Mississippi Valley State in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament.

Junior setter Kelsey Espinosa, sophomore libero Shanice Faison and senior outside hitter Breanna McNeil were each selected to the All-SWAC Second team in their respective positions.

Espinosa was third in the conference with 857 assists, and in SWAC play she led all setters with a league-high 311 assists. She garnered a conference-high, eight Newcomer Of The Week awards and won it five-consecutive weeks to set a school record through September and October. She won her third-consecutive Newcomer of the Week today before the SWAC All-Tournament teams were announced, however she did not win newcomer of the year, shocking fans and coaches.

Faison made the second team as a libero for the second year in a row. She averaged 3.12 digs per game and tallied 212 digs despite missing 1/3 of the season with a foot injury. She was voted as a 2012 Preseason All-SWAC 1st Team libero. McNeil earned her first post-season team selection in being picked as an outside hitter. She is third in the SWAC with 301 total kills and is fifth in the league with 2.66 kills per game.

Western Division No. 1 Seed, Prairie View A&M and its three All-SWAC selections will take on MVSU at 11 a.m. Sunday in the first round of the SWAC Tournament in Jackson, Miss.
