The Prairie View A&M men's tennis team dropped two-consecutive non-conference matches, losing to Marist 7-0 in Prairie View on Monday, March 12 and then dropping another 7-0 decision on Wednesday, March 14 to Texas-Pan American.
These losses come directly after the Panthers went on a 4-0 winning streak in SWAC play.
Though the Lady Panthers lost the doubles point in their March 12 match up, the team of
Ronald Chidzikwe and
Kristen Powell won their match in dramatic fashion. Chidzikwe and Powell defeated Dalen Klassen and Billy Bishop 8-7 (7-3).
“Kristen and Ronald were down 6-5 and fought back to 7-all,” Prairie View A&M tennis coach
John Cochran said. “They played well and hung in there to get the 8-7 win in the tie breaker.”
Cochran added that he was confident that if his team could have won the doubles point then they would have carried the momentum into singles play.
“We actually had a chance to win in the second line with
Trenton Johnson and
Juan Pablo Robles,” Cochran said. “But they couldn't hold serve and ended up falling apart.”
Johnson and Robles were defeated 8-5 by Joris Van Eck and Matt Himmelsback of Marist.
The Panthers will try to bounce back in Dallas at the Southern Methodist tournament from March 18-19 in Dallas, Texas.
