Football To Host Lamar On Saturday Night, Host Of Activities Planned

The Prairie View A&M Panthers hit the ground running once again as they travel to the Golden Triangle city of Beaumont, Texas for the first time since 1998 to face the Lamar University Cardinals in a non-conference matchup on Saturday night at Provost Umphrey Stadium. In adiditon to the game, a variety of activites are planned for the team's return to Southeast Texas on Friday and Saturday.

The Panthers are coming off an emotional loss to SWAC rival Texas Southern on Saturday in which the Tigers nailed a 47-yard field goal as time expired. As a result, PV's five-year Labor Day Classic run came to an end and it marked the second straight season-opening loss for head coach Heishma Northern.

Lamar fell 40-0 to Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday, Sept. 1 and will host the Panthers in their 2012 home debut.

Off the field, a variety of activities will be held to get Panther fans in the spirit. Tonight at 8 p.m., the Prairie View A&M Young Alumni will host a mixer at the Holiday Inn located off of 3950 I-10 South and Walden Road. The mixer is geared toward all PVAMU alumni, particularly those who have graduated in the past 10 years.

Tomorrow morning on Saturday, Sept. 8, Prairie View A&M University will host a breakfast at the Holiday Inn located off of 3950 I-10 South and Walden Road at 8 a.m. Admission to the breakfast is free just by RSVPing to alumnirelations@pvamu.edu or calling (936) 261-1566.

Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, the Office of Alumni Relations will host a Panther Tailgate at the LIT parking lot directly across from the Lamar campus. The tailgate is free and will run from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The weekend winds down on the gridiron at 7 p.m. as the Prairie View A&M Panthers battle the Lamar Cardinals at Provost Umphrey Stadium on the Lamar campus for the first time since 1985. Tickets are available at www.PVPANTHERS.com for $16 or at the LU box office.
