Lady Panthers Prepared For SWAC Home-Stand

GAME NOTES
PANTHERVISION

The Lady Panthers have victory on the mind as they prepare for a pivotal conference home-stand starting with Alabama State at 3 p.m. in the William Nicks Building. Prairie View A&M is 2-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference home games this season.

Alabama State (6-13, 4-3 SWAC) will have its hands full trying to contain senior forward Latia Williams as she comes back from missing two games with a foot injury. In her five SWAC games, Williams is averaging 14.4 points and 10.8 rebounds. She is the only player to average a double-double in conference play. On the season Williams is putting up 14.2 points, 9.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists. She is currently the leading scorer and is second in the conference in the other two statistical categories. No other player in the conference even ranks in the Top 5 in every one of those categories.

She led the Lady Panthers with a game-high 17 points in a 59-53 win over Jackson state at home in the William Nicks Building on Monday, Jan. 14 to help Prairie View string together two wins in a row for the first time this season. She recorded her sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 79-58 win over Grambling state on Jan. 12.

In last week's games versus Mississippi Valley and UAPB, senior guard JaQuandria Williams stepped her game up for the Lady Panthers. She put up an average of 13.5 points and nine rebounds per contest while Latia Williams nursed her injury. JaQuandria Williams is averaging 7.9 points and 4.2 rebounds this season. If she can continue her elevated play as Latia Williams returns then Prairie View A&M could be in prime position to make a run.

Sophomore center Larissa Scott has been a pillar of stability all season for the Lady Panthers. She averages 7.1 points and 8.1 rebounds, recording three double-doubles this season in the process. She is the SWAC's third-leading rebounder and is seventh in the league in minutes played with 32 per game. She will have her hands full with 6-3 Alabama State center Quentori Alford. She is the league leader in rebounds and blocked shots, averaging 9.4 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. Alford and guard Nakiya Smith (10.4 points) form the inside-out duo that Prairie View A&M (6-11, 3-4 SWAC) will have to stop to be successful in this SWAC contest.
