Prairie View A&M heads into its Southwestern Athletic Tournament first-round match up vs. Alabama A&M at 9 a.m. on Saturday in Jackson, Miss. with two 2013 All-SWAC players on its roster in junior outside hitter Candyce Alexander and senior setter Kelsey Espinosa.
Alexander was selected to the All-SWAC First Team as an outside hitter and led the the the Lady Panthers with 246 kills, averaging 2.22 kills per set. She stepped up her play during conference matches, averaging 3.35 (1st in SWAC) kills per set. She averaged 1.71 digs per set and finished the season with 54 total blocks (3rd on team).
Espinosa was selected to the All-SWAC second team, finishing second in the SWAC with with 777 (team-high) total assists and averaging 6.76 (team-high) assists per match. She won two SWAC setter of the week awards during the 2013 season. She put up a season-high of 48 assists in a 3-1 win over Southern on Oct. 21. Espinosa averaged assists 22.3 per match and averaged 10 assists per game(1st in conference) in SWAC matches.Â
