Season Comes To An End In SWAC Tournament For PV Volleyball

BOX SCORE 1 | BOX SCORE 2 | BOX SCORE 3 The Prairie View A&M women's volleyball season came to an end on Day 1 of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament following a 3-0 loss to Texas Southern in an elimination game on Saturday in Jackson, Miss.

Following a 3-1 loss to Alabama A&M to start their SWAC Tournament off, the Lady Panthers bounced back in a 3-0 win over Mississippi Valley State to keep their SWAC Tournament hopes alive. The attacking combination of freshman Lenicia Tyson and senior middle blocker Janette Batista proved to be lethal for PrairieView A&M against Mississippi Valley State in the elimination match.

Batista finished the match with 19 kills, one kill shy of tying her career-high of 20 kills. She did her damage in an efficient manner with a .476 attack percentage. Tyson complemented her teammate's performance with 14 kills and a career-best .611 attack percentage.

Senior setter Kelsey Espinosa ran the offense with 44 assists as the Lady Panthers picked up their final win of the season. Espinosa and the Lady Panthers were ousted from the tournament in a 3-0 loss to Texas Southern. TSU defeated Prairie View A&M three times prior to their SWAC Tournament match. 

The Lady Panthers finished the season with an 11-26 record and two players named to the 2013 All-SWAC team. Junior outside hitter Candyce Alexander was named to the All-SWAC First Team in her first season with Prairie View A&M, and Espinosa finished her career as a second-team selection.
