Lady Panthers Carry Momentum Into Jackson State

GAME NOTES
The Lady Panthers' offense clicked in an 83-49 victory over Grambling State on Saturday afternoon, and their No. 1 rated defense in the Southwestern Athletic Conference held true to form. Now the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team wants to carry some momentum into Jackson State for its 5:30 p.m. game on Monday in Jackson, Miss.

Sophomore point guard Jeanette Jackson, and senior perimeter players Kiara Etienne and Latia Williams led the way for Prairie View A&M in Saturday's victory. Williams recorded her seventh double-double of the season (10 points, 14 rebounds). Jackson scored 14 points and dished out a season-high eight assists, and Etienne scored 14, while shooting a career-high 83 percent from the field with four threes to her name.

Monday's match up will feature two of the SWAC's most dynamic players in Williams and Jackson State's Tiffany Kellum. Williams is the SWAC's second-leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 13.6 points and 9.3 rebounds on the season. Averaging 3.3 assists, she is also fourth in the league in that category. Kellum (13.2 points, 8.2 rebounds) is the third-leading scorer and rebounder in the SWAC, trailing Williams in both categories.

Williams and the Lady Panthers got the better of Kellum and Jackson State in the teams' first meeting on Jan. 14. Williams lead all scorers with 17 points, four rebounds and five assists in Prairie View A&M's 59-53 win. Kellum had 15 points and nine rebounds in the losing effort.

Prairie View A&M looks to get the series sweep over the Lady Tigers and improve it's SWAC standing as the race for SWAC Tournament seeding draws gets closer to its conclusion. The Lady Panthers sit at fourth place with a 6-5 record in conference play. They need to take care of business against a 5-7 Jackson State team in order to close ground on third-place Mississippi Valley State (8-4).
