Lady Panthers Prepared To Strike Back Vs. UAPB

Prairie View A&M has been down right dominant vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff at home in the William Nicks Building, 14-4 overall and 2-0 under coach Toyelle Wilson. The Lady Panthers look to keep that tradition going in their 5:30 p.m. game at the Baby Dome in their annual Play 4 Kay game.

The women's basketball team will wear their pink uniforms as they fight to reclaim their recently lost spot at fourth-place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference standings and fight to raise awareness in the battle against breast cancer. The Lady Panthers dropped to 6-7 in the SWAC and sixth place in the standings after a 58-53 loss to Mississippi Valley State on Saturday night in the William Nicks Building.

Senior guard Kiara Etienne had a team-high 15 points and sophomore point guard Jeanette Jackson continued her recent success of scoring by adding 11 points and two assists in the loss. Jackson is averaging 14.3 points in her last three games, which marks her highest scoring streak of the season.

Jackson looks to keep the streak going, and the Lady Panthers are counting on senior forward Latia Williams being able to bounce back from one of her worst scoring performances of the season (4 points). Williams was able to contribute with her game-high 14 rebounds and five assists to offset her struggles from the field (1-for-7).

The Lady Panthers took a loss to UAPB on Jan. 21 in Pine Bluff, Ark. without Williams in the lineup. Prior to that loss Prairie View A&M had terrified the Golden Lions with head coach Toyelle Wilson calling the shots. She had been 4-0 in coaching against the UAPB and had outscored the team by an average of 87.5 to 46.5. Prairie View A&M looks to get back on track following that 57-50 loss to the Golden Lions earlier this season.

Chigozianyi Okwumabua and Christina Lasane were the catalysts for UAPB in that game, scoring 13 points and 11 points respectively. For the Lady Panthers, Jackson (12 points) was the only player to score in double figures.

The first 250 fans at the Baby Dome will recieve free pink PVAMU / Play 4 Kay drawstring backpacks.
