Prairie View A&M freshman Jackson Varney will enter the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tennis Tournament as the 2013 SWAC Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year.

Varney went undefeated (5-0) in SWAC matches and with an 8-8 record playing in the No. 1 slot for the Panthers. He was one of four Prairie View A&M players to finish the SWAC regular season play without a loss. Craig Wiltz (5-0), Ronald Chidzikwe (5-0) and Jonathan Dingle (3-0) finished their SWAC seasons off with undefeated records. In SWAC singles matches as a team, Prairie View A&M finished with a 28-2 SWAC record overall.

Dingle, along with Varney and Daniel Vasquez (4-1 SWAC) helped the Panthers dominate the All-SWAC First team selections, taking up three of the six spots. Chidzikwe, Karim Fotso (3-1 SWAC) and Wiltz were named to the second team. The doubles team of Ronald Chidzikwe and Karim Fotso went 4-0 in SWAC play and was selected to the All-SWAC First Team. 

Prairie View A&M will enter the SWAC Tournament on Friday, Nov. 19 in New Orleans, La. as the No. 1 seed.
