MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team close out the first half of SWAC play this weekend with its Alabama swing. The Lady Panthers open up play at Alabama State at 3 p.m. on Saturday before heading to Huntsville, Ala. on Monday night.
ALABAMA STATE NOTES
The Lady Panthers are on their first winning streak of the season as they've won three straight dating back to Jan. 20. As a result of the streak, the team has moved into a four-way tie for third place in the SWAC standings.
Sophomore post Shamiya Brooks has grabbed five or more rebounds in every SWAC contest this season. She has recorded seven blocks over the past two games. ASU center Quentori Alford leads the SWAC with 2.2 blocks per game as Saturday's game marks a battle of talented post players.
Alabama State leads the all-time series 37-24 but PVAMU has dominated the series recently with four consecutive wins and 15-of-17 dating back to 2007.
Junior guard Jeanette Jackson has doubled her scoring average from last season as she's scoring an average of 18.1 points per outing.
