Prairie View A&M hits the road for its second trip to the state of Mississippi this month as they'll battle Mississippi Valley State at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Rice-Totten Stadium.

The Panthers enter with a bout of momentum as they're coming off a 34-24 homecoming win over Alabama State last weekend.  The Panthers jumped ahead early and held off a late ASU charge to claim their second straight win of 2014 and first over ASU since 2009.

Mississippi Valley State is coming off a 27-23 upset win over rival Jackson State last weekend in Jackson, Miss.  The Delta Devils snapped a five-game slide with the win as they're looking for their first winning streak of the season at this point.

Prairie View A&M has owned the recent series over MVSU as they've won six of the past seven contests dating back to 2007.  MVSU defeated PVAMU the last time both teams played in Itta Bena, Miss. in 2012 and against Rick Comegy, the Panthers have struggled against him with their only win against Comegy in 2007.

The Panthers rank third in the SWAC in total offense with 416.5 yards per game.  Defensively, the Panthers are  amongst the nation's best in tackles for loss as they're fourth with 9.3 per game.

The Panthers feature several players who rank near the top of the country and the SWAC in several statistical categories. Junior running back Johnta' Hebert ranks fourth in the nation in all-purpose yardage (184.0) and leads the SWAC.  He also chips in with 89.5 rushing yards per game (4th in SWAC) and averages 24.4 yards per kick return. Senior quarterback Jerry Lovelocke ranks second overall in the SWAC with 215.5 passing yards per game while senior wideout Greg Thurmond ranks first in the SWAC with 5.8 receptions per game while linebacker Jerome Howard has amassed 75 tackles for an average of 12.5 tackles per game.
