Candyce Alexander knocked down a match-high 16 kills Tuesday to lead three Lady Panthers in double-figures, but it was not enough as Prairie View A&M fell to Southern in an exciting five-set match.

Scores of the match were 25-22, 25-27, 17-25, 26-24, and 15-7.

The loss dropped Prairie View A&M (5-14) to 0-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference West Division play.

Leading the match two sets to one, the Lady Panthers held a late 21-19 lead before three consecutive points by Southern gave the Jaguars and advantage. The Panthers rallied and tied the score at 24 before giving up the final two points of the set.

In set five, Southern used a seven-point run to establish a comfortable 8-3 lead and never looked back as the Jaguars (5-9) remained a half-game behind Texas Southern in the West Division standings with a 3-1 league record.

Lenicia Tyson knocked down 12 kills and hit a team-best .226 for the Lady Panthers.
Jasmine Lewis registered 10 kills and
Mariah Cox added nine kills for Prairie View A&M.

LaKeisha Allen led the Lady Panthers' defensive effort with 22 digs, while
Ana Kiso posted a double-double, handing out 51 assists and digging 16 opposition attacks.

Leilani Lealaimataifo and Shauntia Carr led Southern with 12 kills apiece.

The Lady Panthers return to action one week from Wednesday when they travel to Austin for a non-conference match at Huston-Tillotson. Match time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
