HONOLULU, Hawaii – The No. 11 North Carolina Tar Heels jumped out to a 10-0 lead and never looked back as they went on to an 81-45 win Saturday over Prairie View A&M at Waikiki Beach Marriott Rainbow Wahine Shootout.
At the University of Hawai'i's Stan Sheriff Center,
Jeanette Jackson (Las Vegas, Nev./Sierra Vista HS) scored a game-high 24 points to lead Prairie View A&M (0-5). Jackson scored 16 of her points at the free throw line, shooting 16-of-22 from the charity stripe.
Jamie Cherry came off the UNC bench to score 15 points and lead three Tar Heels scoring in double-figures.
The Tar Heels, ranked in both the Associated Press Top 25 poll and the USA Today Coaches' Top 25 poll (No. 12), improved to 6-0 with the win.
North Carolina shot 44 percent (28 of 64) from the floor for the game. The Lady Panthers shot only 20 percent (10 of 51) from the floor for the game.
Shamiya Brooks (West Point, Ga./Troup HS) scored eight points and pulled in nine rebounds for the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Panthers conclude their stay in Hawaii with a game against No. 5 Stanford. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m., 2 p.m. Hawaii Standard time.
