BOX SCORE
PINE BLUFF, Ark. - Four players scored in double figures as the Prairie View A&M women's basketball team ran past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 80-67 for their third straight win at the H.O. Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff, Ark.
After a 2-0 lead in the first half by UAPB, the Lady Panthers took control as Shamiya Brooks tied it at 2-all and PVAMU never looked back as they led the rest of the way. Even though PVAMU maintained the lead, the contest was tight through the 14 minutes as every time PVAMU would threaten to pull away, UAPB found ways to cut the deficit to one.
UAPB's Amber Haggie nailed a trey to pull them within 21-19 with 6:28 remaining but Prairie View A&M finally blew the lid off as they outscored UAPB 13-0 to claim a 32-21 advantage at the 2:39 mark. Once again, UAPB closed to within single digits but PVAMU responded and upped it back to 13 as Asha Hampton-Finch hit two free throws followed by Jeanette Jackson's steal and layup with nine seconds left. UAPB would score a layup with four seconds left to close out the half with the Lady Panthers ahead 38-27.
Both Jackson and Brooks were a two-woman wrecking crew in the first half as Brooks scored 13 points with six rebounds while Jackson scored 11 points with three steals.
UAPB cut its deficit to seven early in the second stanza but PVAMU put away any hopes of a Lady Lion run as they outscored UAPB 26-8 over the next 10 minutes for a 64-39 lead. Late in the game, UAPB cut its deficit to 11 but PVAMU was never threatened as they completed the season sweep over UAPB.
Jackson led all scorers with 25 points, five steals and four assists. Brooks scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots followed by 15 from Alexus Parker and 10 each from Hampton-Finch and LaReahn Washington.
With 25 points scored, Jackson is only six points shy of surpassing the 1,000-point mark in her three-year career at PVAMU.
The road trip comes to an end on Monday as PVAMU will face Mississippi Valley State at 5:30 p.m. in Greenwood, Miss.
