Panthers drop home-opener to Houston Baptist in four sets

BOX SCORE PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- Prairie View A&M's 2014 home schedule got off to a less-than-ideal start Tuesday as the Lady Panthers dropped a four-set decision to Houston Baptist University.

Scores of the match were 25-17, 25-6, 20-25, and 25-11.

Jessica Wooten knocked down a match-high 15 kills for the Huskies while Bailey Keith added 13 kills on only 19 attempts (with no errors) to lead Houston Baptist (1-3) to the win. Keith finished the match with a .684 hitting percentage.

Lenecia Tyson led Prairie View A&M (1-3) with 11 kills. Candyce Alexander added nine kills for the Panthers. Ana Kiso tallied 30 assists for the home team, while senior teammate LaKeisha Allen led the defensive effort with 16 digs.

The Huskies may have had sweep on their minds after jumping out to a 16-2 lead in the second set and holding Prairie View to six points en route to taking a lead of two sets to none. The Panthers regrouped and set the tone in set three, at one point leading 22-12.

The Panthers return to action this weekend when they head to Fort Worth to participate in the TCU Nike/Molten Invitational. Prairie View faces Arkansas-Little Rock at 3 p.m., and will then face SWAC rival Grambling State at 6 p.m.
