LORMAN, Miss. – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers travel back to Texas empty-handed from their first conference road trip of the season Monday after falling 68-46 at Alcorn State.
Norianna Haynes scored 20 points for Alcorn State (2-9), which improved to 1-1 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. Olivia Brown added 16 points for the Lady Braves.
Jeanette Jackson scored a team-high 20 points for the Lady Panthers (3-11), who fell to 0-2 in SWAC play. Jackson was 5-of-22 from the field, and made nine out of her 13 free throw attempts.
Alexus Parker added 12 points for the Lady Panthers.
Chelsey Rosier came off the Prairie View A&M bench to score five points.
The Panthers struggled to put the ball in the basket in the first half, shooting only 23 percent (5 of 22) from the floor before halftime. Alcorn State took a 35-17 lead into halftime.
The large halftime margin proved to be enough of a cushion for Alcorn State in the second half, as the Lady Braves never saw their lead fall into single-digits for the remainder of the contest.
The loss was the fourth consecutive setback for the Lady Panthers.
Prairie View A&M returns to action Sunday when they host the Lady Panthers host first-place Texas Southern at William J. Nicks Arena. Game time for the women's contest, which leads off the basketball doubleheader, is scheduled for 5 p.m.
