• The Panthers started a key, six-game SWAC swing last weekend with a 45-6 win over Mississippi Valley State.  With Southern's win over Alabama State, the Panthers are in third place and will need to keep winning in order to keep their postseason hopes alive.

• PVAMU head coach Willie Simmons is 4-0 as a playcaller versus Southern.

• This is a historic series as the first meeting occurred in 1930 between both teams.

• PVAMU has the top offense in the SWAC at 489.8 yards per game and ranks second in scoring offense with 42.8 yards points per game while SU averages 33.2 points per game and  390.2 total offensive yards.

• The running backs may shine tonight as two of the top four rushers in the SWAC will be in attendance as SU's Lenard Tillery ranks second with 85.6 yards per game while PVAMU's Johnta' Hebert ranks fourth with 76.2 yards per game.

• Southern has won two straight over PVAMU for the first time since a 16-game streak from 1989 to 2005.  PVAMU has not won in Baton Rouge, La. since 2011.

• Both teams feature solid quarterbacks as Austin Howard ranks fourth in the SWAC in passing average (212.8) while Trey Green is third for PVAMU with 288.2 yards per game.

• The Panthers play eight games inside the state of Texas and will finally leave the state for the first time this season this weekend.

• Five players were named to the 2015 All-SWAC Preseason Team while Prairie View A&M was picked third in the SWAC West in the annual SWAC Preseason Poll.
