JACKSON, Miss. -- The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers went 1-2 on the first day of the inaugural Southwestern Athletic Conference Volleyball Roundup on Friday.
The Lady Panthers (3-19) sandwiched a four-set win over Mississippi Valley State between losses to Alabama A&M and Alabama State.
Prairie View A&M won the match over Valley by scores of 25-17, 20-25, 25-11, and 25-16.
Randi Hunter knocked down 12 kills to lead the Lady Panthers, while
Calli Jordan Hensch added 11 kills for PVAMU.
Ana Kiso led the Lady Panthers with 26 assists.
The win was the third in four matches for the Lady Panthers. Prairie View A&M concludes play Saturday against Jackson State and Alcorn State.
ALABAMA A&M 3, PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 1In Prairie View A&M's opening match of the Roundup, the Lady Panthers won the first set before the Lady Bulldogs came back to win the next three.
Scores of the match were 23-25, 25-19, 27-25, and 25-19.
As they would do in their next match, Hunter and Hensch led the Lady Panthers in kills, knocking down 11 and 10, respectively.
Christen Augustine and
MoKeysha Shanklin added seven kills apiece for PVAMU.
Ana Kiso registered 33 assists and 13 digs, while
Paige Chuidian led the defensive effort with 14 digs. Hunter blocked seven attacks from AAMU, while
Tisharra Thompson assisted on five blocks.
ALABAMA STATE 3, PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 0Shanklin's 10 kills were not enough for Prairie View A&M in their third match of the day Friday, as the Lady Panthers fell to Alabama State in straight sets.
Scores of the match were 25-13, 25-11, and 25-14.
Kiso handed out 21 assists, while Chuidian added 10 digs.
