JACKSON, Miss. -- Christian Waldron and his Prairie View A&M teammates scored a comeback victory Friday in the opening tennis match of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Roundup as they defeated host Jackson State 4-3.
After the Panthers were swept in doubles play to fall behind 1-0, the Panthers recovered and claimed wins in the top four singles flights to take the overall match 4-3.
Waldron, a transfer from ASA-Brooklyn who led his team to the NJCAA national championship in 2014, won another flight one singles match, defeating Carlos Martinez 6-2, 4-6, 6-4. PVAMU's
Bruno Snyder cruised in flight two to a 6-4, 6-0 win over Camilo Patino.
Flights three and four also went to Prairie View A&M. Sergio Avella won his flight three match by scores of 7-5 and 6-1 over Federico Mendieta. In flight four,
Jonathan Dingle defeated Miguel Martin 7-6, 6-3.
The Panthers continue play at the SWAC Roundup on Saturday. Next month, Prairie View A&M will host the second round of the SWAC Roundup in Houston.
