HOUSTON, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers look to continue their recent success in Southwestern Athletic Conference postseason play Friday when they face Southern in the tournament semifinal at the Toyota Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Prairie View A&M (14-17) has won the last four SWAC Tournament Championships, and have won six overall since 2007. The Lady Panthers opened the 2015 Tournament with a 66-59 win over Alcorn State; it was Prairie View A&M's 13th consecutive SWAC Tournament triumph.
Prairie View A&M has won its last four tournament games against Southern, including the 2009 and 2011 SWAC championship games. Southern has never defeated Prairie View A&M in a SWAC Tournament game away from Baton Rouge. The Jaguars (18-11) will be a rested bunch Friday, as seven players sat out of their first-round win over Mississippi Valley State as punishment for their roles in the brawl at Texas Southern on March 7.
Prairie View A&M senior guard
Jeanette Jackson (Las Vegas, Nev.) was named the SWAC Player of the Year. At the end of the regular season, she led the conference in scoring (16.9 points per game) and assists (3.6 apg).
The Prairie View A&M's men's team will play its semifinal game against Texas Southern following the women's game. Both games will be broadcast on KPVU 91.3 FM. Leonard Moon will have the call.
