The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers open their final weekend of regular season games Thursday when they welcome the Southern University Jaguars to William J. Nicks Arena. Tipoff for Thursday's game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Panthers (13-15, 10-6 SWAC) are hoping to avenge their 67-51 loss at Southern on January 3. Prairie View A&M has won four of its last five games, and is 7-1 at home this season.
Prairie View A&M is led by the perimeter play of
Jeanette Jackson and
Alexus Parker. Jackson, a senior guard from Las Vegas, Nev., leads the SWAC in both scoring (17.1 points per game) and assists (3.8 apg). Parker, a sophomore from Savannah, Ga., has scored at least 13 points in eight of her 10 nine games, and averages 10.0 points per contest.
The Southern Jaguars (16-10, 14-2 SWAC) are trying to keep pace with first-place Texas Southern in the SWAC standings. The Jaguars trail TSU by one game, and would clinch the top seed in the SWAC Tournament with an undefeated trip through Texas. Southern guards Kendra Coleman and Britney Washington average 13.7 and 13.0 points per game, respectively.
The women's and men's games between the two teams will be broadcast on KPVU 91.3 FM. Leonard Moon will have the call.
