Lady Panthers Suffer Disappointing Road Loss On Wednesday At SFA

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A five-run fifth inning was the difference in the game as Stephen F. Austin rallied for a 7-4 softball win over Prairie View A&M on Wednesday.

PVAMU came out focused to open the contest as consecutive errors by SFA allowed Destinee Williams and Laura Martinez to reach base.  Amanda Ford's RBI single scored Williams for the 1-0 lead followed by Jazmine Hicks' bunt single for a 2-0 advantage. Amber Sorensen drove in the team's third run and another SFA error allowed Hicks to score for a 4-0 advantage.

A passed ball in the second allowed SFA to cut the lead to 4-1 and the Lady Panthers avoided a pitfall in the third as they battled back with two on with no outs to keep SFA at one run. However, the Lady Panthers were their own worst enemy as a wild pitch led to an SFA run in the fourth.

Leading 4-2 entering the fifth, an error allowed SFA's leadoff batter to reach second followed by a stolen base and an RBI triple to cut the lead to 4-3.  PVAMU's second error of the inning on a sac bunt play tied the game at 4-all and gave new life to SFA's offense as they hit a single, triple and a sac bunt to pull ahead 7-4.

PVAMU had two runners on with one out in the sixth but failed to capitalize followed by a 1-2-3 seventh to end the game.

Jessica Long (0-4) went the distance on the mound while the East Texas and Palestine, Texas duo of Jalla Johnson and Hicks both finished with two hits.

The Lady Panthers are off this weekend and will return to action next Tuesday in Austin, Texas with a doubleheader at Huston-Tillotson beginning at 1 p.m.
