Lady Panthers fall to Sam Houston State and UTSA

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers dropped contests to host Sam Houston State and UTSA at the Bearkat Volleyball Invitational to open the 2015 season.

Prairie View A&M (0-2) returns to action Saturday when they conclude play in Huntsville against Tulane and Montana State. The Lady Panthers open with Tulane at 9 a.m.

The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers put up a fight in the third set Friday before succumbing to Sam Houston State in the 2015 opener for both teams.
 
The Bearkats took the match with scores of 25-15, 25-13, and 26-24.
 
Brooke White knocked down 14 kills and hit .480 for Sam Houston State during the second match of the Bearkat Volleyball Invitational. Amanda Gooch added 11 kills for the Bearkats.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Jasmine Lewis led the Lady Panthers with nine kills. Right side hitter Mykaeli Franklin added five kills and hit .231 in her collegiate debut; the freshman from Seguin, Texas, also had eight digs for the Lady Panthers.
 
After the first two sets saw only one tie and no lead changes, the young Prairie View A&M squad gave the Bearkats all they could handle in the third set. There were 10 ties and eight lead changes in the third set.
 
The Lady Panthers faced match point twice trailing 24-22 in the third set, but were able to fend that off after forcing consecutive Sam Houston errors and tying the score. However, the Bearkats recovered and scored the next two points to clinch the match.
 
Shanice Faison lead the Lady Panther defense with nine digs in her first match in a Prairie View A&M uniform since 2012. Faison played last season at Texas–Pan American before returning to Prairie View after UTPA merged with UT–Brownsville to form UT–Rio Grande Valley.
 
Ana Kiso handed out 14 assists for the Lady Panthers. Freshman Randi Hunter tallied three kills and assisted on three blocks for Prairie View A&M.
 
UTSA 3, PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 0
The UTSA Roadrunners proved to be too much to handle Friday as they claimed a three-set win over Prairie View A&M in the Lady Panthers' second match at the Bearkat Volleyball Invitational.

Dajana Boskovic knocked down 16 kills and hit .565 to lead the Roadrunners, who improved to 2-0 on the season.

Jasmine Lewis knocked down nine kills for the Lady Panthers, hitting .438 in the process. Ana Kiso handed out 15 assists for Prairie View A&M.

The Roadrunners hit a staggering .573 as a team, recording 49 kills on 75 attempts while committing on six attacking errors. The Lady Panthers had only 15 digs as a team.
