LAKE CHARLES, La. – The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers gave McNeese State all it could handle in the second set Tuesday before ultimately succumbing to the Cowgirls in three sets.
Â
Scores of the match were 25-10, 26-24, and 25-7.
Â
McNeese State's Malina Sanchez knocked down a match-high 10 kills and committed no errors for a .476 hitting percentage. Rae Myers added eight kills for the Cowgirls (2-7).
Â
MoKeysha Shanklin led the Lady Panthers (0-10) with seven kills in the match. Setter
Ana Kiso handed out 20 assists, while

Â
After a quick first set, the Lady Panthers regrouped and scored five straight points to take an early 6-1 lead in set two.
Calli Jordan Hensch knocked down two of her three kills in the match to cap the 5-0 run.
Â
The Prairie View A&M lead hovered around four and five points until the Cowgirls rallied for three consecutive points to cut the lead to 12-10. However, the lead went back up to five thanks to three consecutive McNeese State attack errors – one of which came on a block by Hensch and
Randi Hunter.
Â
Later, the Cowgirls used a 6-1 run to turn an 18-14 deficit to a 20-19 lead – their first since the end of set one. Once again, the Lady Panthers showed their resolve, and rebuilt their lead to 23-21.
Christen Augustine accounted for two of those four points with a pair of kills.
Â
The Cowgirls reeled off the next two points, but PVAMU took a 24-23 lead on another kill by Augustine, giving the Lady Panthers set point. The win was not to be, though, as McNeese State scored the final three points to take the set.
Â
Hunter recorded five kills for the Lady Panthers, while Augustine and Kiso knocked down four kills apiece.
Â
The Lady Panthers return to action Friday when they visit the University of Houston to take part in the Flo Hyman Classic. Prairie View A&M will go against two Southland Conference teams Friday, meeting Nicholls State at 10 a.m. before facing Southeastern Louisiana at 5:30 p.m.
