SAN MARCOS, Texas – The youth-heavy Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers left San Marcos still in search of their first victory of the season Saturday after dropping their Delta Zeta Classic finale to Lamar.

The Cardinals won the match by scores of 25-12, 25-12, and 25-16.

Tomar Thomas knocked down a match-high 11 kills to lead the Cardinals, who improved their record to 4-3. Haley Morton handed out 26 assists for Lamar, while her teammate Lauren Stahlman tallied 10 digs.

MoKeysha Shanklin and
Randi Hunter accumulated five kills apiece to lead the Lady Panthers (0-8).

Paige Chuidian led the defensive effort with five digs for PVAMU.

The Cardinals led for the entire first and second sets, but found the Lady Panthers to be resilient in set three. The match's final set featured four ties and three lead changes in the early stages.

The Lady Panthers had the most trouble stopping Lamar's top three hitters; all other Cardinals struggled to find consistency against Prairie View A&M. Thomas, Chelsey Grant (nine kills), and Cortney Moore (eight kills) combined to hit .500, knocking down 28 kills against only six errors on 44 attempts.

Meanwhile, the remaining Cardinal players hit .059 against Prairie View A&M, negating 12 kills with 10 errors on 34 attempts.

As a team, the Lady Panthers hit -.024, committing 20 errors while only recording 18 total kills on 83 total attempts.

The Lady Panthers return to action Tuesday when they visit Houston Baptist. The Huskies defeated the Lady Panthers in three sets earlier this week in Prairie View.

First serve between the Lady Panthers and Huskies is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at HBU's Sharp Gymnasium.
