Nicks Complex "BabyDome" as the Senior Day opponent. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Lady Panthers (11-12) evened their record in Southwestern Athletic Conference play to 7-7 this weekend with wins at Arkansas–Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State. Prairie View A&M turned in one of its most dominating performances of the season Monday, defeating Mississippi Valley State 81-50.
Lamaria Cole leads the Lady Panthers into their game against the Lady Hornets. The senior guard from Bryan, Texas, won her third Player of the Week award from the SWAC on Wednesday after leading PVAMU during its 2-0 road trip last weekend. Cole averaged 24.5 points per game and shot 60.6 percent from the field; she scored a career-high 29 points and made a career-best 13 field goals at Valley.
For the season, Cole averages 15.8 points per game, which leads the Lady Panthers and ranks third in the SWAC. She leads the SWAC in assists, handing out 3.8 per game, and ranks second in the conference with 2.7 steals per game – an average that also ranks among the Top 30 players in the nation.
Senior forward
Larissa Scott averages 11.4 points and a SWAC-leading 10.1 rebounds per game for the Lady Panthers. Junior guard
Alexus Parker tallies 10.4 points and 5.9 renpimds per game for Prairie View A&M.
The Lady Panthers seek to end a three-game losing streak to Alabama State (13-10, 11-3 SWAC). The Lady Hornets swept the regular season series in 2015, and claimed a 65-54 win earlier this month when the teams squared off in Montgomery. Alabama State has won 41 of the previous 69 meetings between the two teams since joining the SWAC in 1982.
The Lady Hornets bring the SWAC's third-highest scoring offense and second-stingiest defense to Prairie View. Britney Wright leads Alabama State in scoring and rebounding, averaging 14.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.
This weekend's games against Alabama State and Alabama A&M will mark the final home contests for seniors
Cole, Scott, Monique Abbs, and
Taylor Overshown.
Chelsey Rosier, who suffered a season-ending injury in January, will also be honored Saturday as part of the Senior Day festivities.
