The opening tip
The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers open play at the 2016 Toyota Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament on Thursday when they face Grambling State. The Lady Tigers swept both regular season games from PVAMU this season. Lamaria Cole leads the Lady Panthers into their game against Grambling; she finished the regular season as the fourth-leading scorer in the SWAC. PVAMU won four consecutive SWAC tournament championships from 2011 through 2014.

Grambling State leads the all-time series with the Lady Panthers 56-25 dating back to the start of the NCAA's women's basketball era in 1981. Prairie View A&M has won 22 of the previous 25 games between the two teams dating back to 2006, including the last three postseason meetings with Grambling State.
