BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern University Jaguars led from start to finish Saturday as they claimed a 72-45 win over visiting Prairie View A&M on the last day of the Southwestern Athletic Conference's regular season.
 
Briana Green and Britney Washington scored 17 points apiece to lead Southern (17-10), who clinched a share of the SWAC's regular season championship with a 14-4 league record. The Jaguars share the title with Alabama State, who clinched the top seed in next week's SWAC Tournament, and Texas Southern.
 
Prairie View A&M's 
Lanikki McMillian led the Lady Panthers with 15 points, shooting 6-of-11 from the field. The 15 points matches a PVAMU career high for the junior college transfer from Pontotoc, Miss.
 
Larissa Scott scored 10 points and pulled in nine rebounds for the Lady Panthers (13-14), who finished the regular season with a conference record of 9-9. 
Lamaria Cole, who is recovering from an injury, scored eight points off the PVAMU bench.
 
The Lady Panthers enter the SWAC Tournament at the Toyota Center in Houston as the No. 5 seed. They will face Grambling State. The Lady Tigers will meet Prairie View A&M at 6 p.m. Thursday.
 
The Jaguars scored the first seven points of the game and would lead 11-4 with 5:24 left in the opening quarter. Consecutive baskets by 
Tori Carter and Scott cut Southern's lead to three points at the quarter's 3:46 mark before Southern ended the period with a 7-0 run and an 18-8 lead.
 
McMillian knocked down a 3-pointer to cut Southern's lead into single-digits with 7:39 left in the second quarter. Southern then pulled away with 13 unanswered points, with Skylar O'Bear hitting a 3-pointer to give the Jaguars a 37-15 lead with 4:16 remaining until halftime.
 
The Jaguars would lead by as many as 27 points before halftime, and would stretch their lead to as much as 30 points with 3:19 left in the third quarter.
 
Southern shot 60.4 percent (29 of 48) from the floor, while the Lady Panthers shot 30 percent (18 of 60) from the field.
 
The Jaguars have won five straight over Prairie View A&M since the Lady Panthers prevailed over Southern in the 2014 SWAC semifinals en route to that year's championship.
