NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Prairie View A&M men's tennis team advanced to the semifinal round of the postseason Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament with a 4-2 win Friday over Arkansas–Pine Bluff.

The Panthers fell behind a point after losing the doubles point but recovered with four singles wins to give head coach Duane Williams his first-ever postseason win at Prairie View A&M.

Prairie View A&M only fielded five players, one short of a standard lineup, but it would only affect their doubles showings, as the two teams split the first two flights while giving the Golden Lions a forfeit victory in flight three.

In singles play, the Panthers got straight-set wins out in flights one, two, four, and five. Freddy Quintero and Ulrick Boyogueno made quick work of their opponents in flights four and five, respectively, as each player gave up only three games to their opposition. Quintero breezed to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hanif Fudaeel, while Boyogueno defeated Khutso Ledwaba by the opposite score.

In flight two, Sergio Avella claimed a 6-4, 6-1 win for the Panthers as he defeated UAPB's Simon Lewis. In the most competitive singles match that was completed, Christian Waldron took flight one with scores of 6-4, 6-3 in a win over Sajid Rahman.

With four wins claimed and PVAMU's spot in the semifinals secured, the flight three match was abandoned early in the third set. Anirudh Yadav dropped the first set to UAPB's Jualon Greig 6-1 before winning 6-3. Greig held a 1-0 advantage in the final set before it was abandoned.

In doubles action, Waldron and Avella prevailed 6-2 over Lewis and Ledwaba in flight one, but the Lions took flight two as Rahman and Greig defeated Yadav and Boyogueno.
