Volleyball Falls At Texas-Rio Grande Valley

EDINBURG, Texas – The Prairie View A&M University volleyball team lost 3-0 to Texas-Rio Grande Valley in a non-conference match Tuesday.

The Lady Panthers got off to a fast start in the match, leading by as many as four points before UTRGV went on a run to take control of the game one. PVAMU was unable to seize control in the final games in losing 25-18, 25-12, 25-13.

"We did not remain aggressive," said PVAMU volleyball coach Tacho Tyler. "We played the second and third games very passive. Against a good team, you can't do that. Our offense has to execute better, and our blocking needs to be more consistent."

Larissa Martinez had eight kills, Mykaeli Franklin 14 assists, and Christen Augustine 14 digs for the Lady Panthers, who return to SWAC play Friday at Jackson State at 4 p.m. and Sunday at Mississippi Valley State at 11 a.m.

VOLLEYBALL HOME OPENER TO BENEFIT PEDIATRIC CANCER AWARENESS The Prairie View A&M Lady Panther volleyball team will support awareness for pediatric cancer during its Tuesday, Sept. 27 home opener against St. Thomas.

Both PVAMU volleyball and St. Thomas will wear special gold shoe laces, and fans will have the ability to purchase shoe laces for $5 at the 6:30 p.m. match in the William Nicks Building.

The Panther Student Body will also participate in the event, as the dorm with the most residents in attendance and the dorm that buys the most shoelaces will win prizes.
