LORMAN, Miss – The Prairie View A&M University women's basketball team lost a late lead in falling at Alcorn State 62-55 at the Davey Whitney Complex.
 
Alexus Parker scored 13 points and six rebounds, and Dominque Newman scored 13 points with five rebounds to lead the Lady Panthers.
 
Neither team led by more than eight points in the contest that had six ties and 10 lead changes.
 
Trailing 36-35 at halftime, Prairie View A&M (5-9, 0-2) regained the lead near the midway point of the third quarter. A three pointer by Newman gave the Lady Panthers a 41-40 lead with just under six minutes to play in the period. Following an Alcorn State (1-12, 1-1) basket, a three-pointer by Parker put PVAMU back in front 44-42 with four minutes to play in the third quarter. Following the fifth tie of the game at 44-all, the Lady Panthers scored five of the final seven points to take a 49-46 advantage into the fourth quarter.
 
A free throw by Jeronia Allen provided PVAMU its largest lead of the night, 52-48 with just under 7:30 to play. However, the Lady Panthers scored only three points during the remainder of the game.
 
Prairie View A&M will play its SWAC home opener Saturday against Texas Southern at 3 p.m. in the William J. Nicks Babydome.  Panther fans are encouraged to wear their PVAMU purple and gold to the game.
