Women's Basketball Returns to Action at the UTRGV Tournament

EDINBURG, - Texas – The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team will conclude Thanksgiving weekend at the Feast of Sharing Tournament hosted by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Saturday and Sunday at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.

Fans can get live stats on pvpanthers.com for both games, and watch Sunday's game live against UTRGV.

The Lady Panthers will face Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Saturday at noon.  This will be the first time that Coach Ravon Justice and Coach Royce Chadwick will have faced each other, but the seventh time for the history of the two programs, with the Islanders leading the series 5-1.

The last time the two teams met was on November 28, 2003 when the Lady Panthers fell 88-37.  In their last outing PVAMU (2-1) fell to Bethune-Cookman 77-52 in Daytona Beach, Fla.  The Islanders (2-3) are also coming off a loss (70-61) to New Mexico State.

On Sunday, the Lady Panthers will face host team UTRGV (4-1) in a 3 p.m. matchup.  In their last meeting on Nov. 26, 2016 during the Feast of the Border Tournament PVAMU fell 82-74 to the Vaqueros.  UTRGV leads the all-time series 14-2.

"I think we are playing two good teams," Justice commented.  "Corpus Christi has had two early wins, so they definitely are used to some early success.  Any time a team is playing well, there are going to be some battles on the road. They will be a great challenge for us, so we will have to come in and do what we have to do, especially better than we did earlier in the week. It's going to be a great challenge and I am excited that we are playing in Texas.  UTRGV and TAMCC are two different teams, but they are very tough opponents on the road.  So we will have to go in and stay solid to the things that we do well and not put ourselves in whole with the fouls and the turnovers like we did Monday.  I think that we have a great opportunity for us this weekend."
