JACKSON, Miss – Day two of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Roundup found the Prairie View A&M women's and men's team picking up their second wins of the weekend against Alabama A&M, while the women's team fell to Southern in the afternoon contest 4-2 on Saturday.
In the morning match-up at Mississippi College, the Lady Panthers opened the match earning the doubles point by Neharika Rama and Stacy Lackey at the No. 1 position over Alabama A&M's Virag Hollos and Rida Khalid 6-4. Sydney Thomas and Shaddae Findley defeated the Lady Bulldogs Shrarre Smith and Alyssa Williams 6-2 at the No. 3 position.
Prairie View earned a win at the No. 3 position to start the singles play by Thomas with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Khalid to knot the match at 2-2. The Lady Panthers earned a win at the No. 4 position by Findley 6-3, 6-0 over the Bulldogs' Smith. Trinity Randolph at the No. 5 position clinched the win for PVAMU over Jazmine Lawson 6-3, 6-3.
In game two Prairie View A&M dropped the doubles matches. Findley took down Tanaka Chakahyura 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 position, while Trinity Randolph at the No. 5 rallied to win in three sets to claim her point (0-6, 6-3, 6-2) over Nicki Neal earning the Lady Panthers its two points.
The Panthers men's tennis team earned the doubles point to start the match, earning wins by Ulrick Boyogueno and Xavier Lawrence at the No.1 position over Nishangan Nadrarja and Christian Bigott 6-4. Sergio Avella and Anirudh Yadav also won their set at the No. 2 6-0 over Joshua Wilson and Jarib Beazer.
Prairie View A&M saw the Bulldogs earn a win at the No. 1 position to start singles play for a 1-1 tie. Boyogueno downed Carlos Salas at the No. 2 position 6-1, 6-4 to take the lead back 2-1. Alabama A&M battled back, earning wins at the No. 3 and 4 positions to take a 3-2 edge over the Panthers.
Freddy Quentero of the Panthers won at the No. 5 position over Beazer 6-3, 6-1 leaving the day's outcome in the hands of Zach Suico, who defeated Wilson 6-0, 6-3, at the No 6 position to break the tie breaker 4-3 solidifying the second win of the weekend for the Panthers.
The Lady Panthers will be back in action on Friday, March 11 at Texas San Antonio in San Antonio, Texas for a 3 p.m. match up, while the Panthers face Abilene Christian on Friday, March 3 in Houston, Texas in a 10 a.m. match.
