San Antonio, Texas – In men's action after a morning rain delay the Panthers went down fighting defeating Our Lady of the Lake 6-3 at the Northside Tennis Center in Helotes, Texas.
This by far has been one of the Panthers best outing of the season, winning the doubles point and four of the six singles matches for the 6-3 victory.
Scoring was a little different as PVAMU picked up two points in the doubles match instead of one. Both PVAMU's doubles points were marked on their side of the scoreboard as the No. 2 team stormed to an 8-6 victory and No. 3 posted an 8-5 win. At No. 2
Sergio Avella and
Anirudh Yadav downed Lady of Lakes pair Bernardo Pegas and Jacob Galaviz, while on the No.3 court Zach Suico and
Freddy Quintero, topped Pablo Cavazos and Cornelio Gonzalez.
Four of the singles battles were finished in straight sets, with two going to the Saints.
At the No. 3 Avella posted a 6-7, 6-2 win over Pegas, and at the No. 4, it was Quintero posting 6-3, 6-2 win over Cavazos. At the No. 5 it was PVAMU's Yadav posting a 6-2, 6-0 win over Galaviz.
Leading 5-2, the Panthers polished off the final match at the No.6 Suico outlasting Gonzalez 6-3, 6-2 to take the win.
With a little mist and dew the Prairie View A&M women's tennis team fell 7-0 to the University of Texas San Antonio Saturday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Timara Maxwell match against S Madronal Medina at the no. 6 position in singles was a match that saw a third set. Maxwell won the first set 3-6, forcing a set three after dropping set two 6- 2. In a third set, 10-point tiebreaker, Maxwell lost the match, 10-5.
Stacy Lackey at the no. 2 position put up a fight against Denisa Ibrahimovic falling 6-1, 6-4 in singles.
The men's team will return to action on Monday, March 13 when they host United States Naval Academy at 2 p.m. Both teams will be in action on Friday, March 17 for the regular season SWAC Roundup II in Montgomery, Ala., at the Olean Black Underwood Tennis Center in three day action.
