Softball Falls In SWAC Doubleheader Action

Prairie View, Texas. –  The Prairie View A&M University softball team had its SWAC home opening series spoiled by the Mississippi Valley Devilettes on Saturday, as the Lady Panthers dropped games by the scores of 14-3 and 4-2 at the PVAMU Softball Complex.

Game 1: MVSU 14, PVAMU 3

The first game saw PVAMU jump on the board in the bottom of the first frame with Briana Knowles singling to the shortstop on one out.  Knowles stole second to put her in scoring position before Destinee Williams hit a single to left center to score Knowles for a 1-0 lead.

Valley homered to open up frame two and then scoring twice more to take a 3-1 lead over the Lady Panthers.

MVSU scored again in the top of the third to take a 7-1 lead, but the Lady Panthers tacked on another run as Knowles stole home after landing on base on a walk to make the score 7-2.

Valley scored again in the fourth before going on a scoring borage (seven runs) in the fifth, after holding the Lady Panthers to one more run in the bottom of the fifth frame to take a definite 14-3 lead to close out game one.

Game 2: MVSU 4, PVAMU 2

Game two started out a little different then the first, as the Lady Panthers scored two runs in the first frame, holding the Devilettes scoreless through three frames.

Natalie McLennan was the lead runner for the Lady Panthers after reaching base on a walk.  Following back-to-back singles down the left line by D. Williams and Laurisa Hernandez, allowed both McLennan and D. Williams to score taking a 2-0 lead.

MVSU tied the game in the fourth and took scored again in the sixth for the final margin.

D. Williams went 3-for-5 (2RBI) on the day with a run scored to lead the Lady Panthers.  Hernandez also picked up 2RBIs.
